I know that some days may seem impossible to get through. I know that at times, giving up seems like the most plausible option. I know that sometimes, our bosses/colleagues/patients never seem to make things easier. I know that we all get really tired and the word, 'sleep' at times does not even exist in our lives.
Things would always be a little difficult because we are at the most bottom of the hierarchy that has existed in the medical fraternity years after years. I know that it would be difficult to trust me when I say that things would get better eventually. I have been there and it did get better for me.
Do not misunderstand me when I say, "It did get better for me." I did not mean that the job got less tiring or I got to rest and sleep more. What I meant was that the environment around me started improving once I learnt how to respect and learn from my bosses, colleagues and patients. What I meant was I started feeling less afraid of carrying out clinical procedures once I kept practicing them constantly without letting fear get the best of me.
I was lucky because I was always surrounded by amazing colleagues who were willing to guide me when I was lost. I was lucky because I have always tried to see the good in a person instead of the bad, hence whenever I was scolded or reprimanded, I always tried my best to learn from my mistake.
Whenever things get rough, do not hesitate to seek support from loved ones or friends. It is important to remember that YOU are SIGNIFICANT so nothing is more important that your own mental and physical health. Believe me when I say that I did not take care of myself well and I am facing certain repercussions now which could have been prevented if only I looked after myself a little better. I have no regrets though because I know that every obstacle in life would only make me a stronger person and there isn't a better teacher than a harrowing life changing experience.
Do not ever give up because you know that graduating from medical school was no easy task and you achieved it. This is just another journey for you to undergo and when you have completed this stage, you know you have achieved another amazing feat!
True indeed! Always remember the above quote, it honestly helps.
